Extra Materials: Slips of paper with numbers on them. Different magazines.
Beginning the lesson
- Wait by the door and greet the children as they arrive.
- (An activity to revise the vocabulary from Unit 4a.)
Write the numbers (1-5) on the board in random order. Point to a number and elicit its corresponding name. Repeat for the remaining numbers. Then hold up two pencils and ask: How many? Elicit: two pencils. Do the same for pens. Repeat the procedure as many times as you feel necessary.
Presentation & Practice
- (Activities to practise the vocabulary of the lesson.)
Give each child a slip of paper with a number written on it. Call out the numbers (1-5) in random order. The child/children who has/have this number hold(s) it up for the class to see. The rest of the children count and say how many girls/boys are holding up the number. - Draw a large 22 on the board. Point to it, mime and say: Open your books at page twenty-two!
