Jane Austen (1775-1817) wrote romantic fiction. Her novels usually involved the British upper classes. The main theme of her stories was the fact that women in these times depended on marriage for social status and financial security. Some of her most famous novels are: Sense and Sensibility (1811), Pride and Prejudice (1813), Mansfield Park(1814) andEmma (1816).
