🔊 Pete and Paul were friends. One day Pete was invited to his friend’s birthday party. Pete asked his mother if he could visit Paul on Saturday. 🔊 Pete’s mother phoned Paul’s mother and Pete was allowed to go. Before Pete went to the party on Saturday afternoon his mother asked him to be polite and not to ask him for food. "Wait until food is given to you," she said. 🔊 When Pete arrived, he saw that there were a lot of boys and girls at the party. They were playing some games. Pete joined them. They all played together for an hour and then the children were invited to have tea. Pete’s mother gave some cakes to the children but somehow she forgot to give Pete any. The boy waited politely for a few minutes, and then he held his plate up in the air and said loudly, "Does anyone want a nice clean plate?"
